Pennsylvania is a place that has beautiful landscapes, history and heritage. With a beautiful autumn season that draws visitors every year, and plenty to do in the other seasons, it is a place where you will enjoy many activities. It is also home to one of the world’s biggest stadiums, Beaver Stadium.
Here are some of the most amazing places to see in Pennsylvania:
1) The Bushkill Falls
Often called the Niagara of Pennsylvania, Bushkill Falls is a beautiful site to see tucked in the Pocono Mountains. It is made up of eight waterfalls and rushes down 100-foot cliff.
2) Kinzua Bridge Skywalk
The Kinzua Bridge, completed in 1882, is a wonder to see. There is a small part of the bridge now, a 300-foot part, that was restored after it was impacted by a tornado, and you can walk along the observation bridge here for some incredible views of the valley below.
3) The Poconos Mountains
Head to the Poconos Mountains year-round for incredible beauty, sites and activities. You can go skiing, winter hiking and all the snow sports in the winter, see the gorgeous fall foliage that the area is well known for, and enjoy swimming, fishing and being at the lakes during the spring and summer seasons.
4) Civil War Battlefields, Gettysburg
Some of the country’s bloodiest battles during the Civil War occurred in Gettysburg. You can visit and pay respect at the Civil War Battlefields, and explore the sites here such as Little Round Top and Devil’s Den.
5) Crystal Cave
Located in Berks County, Crystal Cave is a popular tourist spot in the region. It has incredibly unique rock formations throughout with calcite deposits of different colors and shades. This is a place you want to give yourself plenty of time to explore, and makes for a great activity especially if you are traveling here with kids.
6) The small town of New Hope
New Hope is a small town about an hour north of Philadelphia. This picturesque little town sits on a river and has plenty to do. There are restaurants and wineries along the river that you can stop off at, relax and enjoy the views. And there is also the theatre and plenty of shops that you can pop around to and really see and explore the character of the town.
7) Hiking the Appalachian Trail
The Appalachian Trail is a famous trail that draws hikers and adventurers from all around the world. It is a massive trail that stretches over 2100 miles, travels through 14 states, and can take 5-7 months to complete. Built by private citizens and completed in 1937, whether you hike the whole trail or a piece of it, this national scenic trail is one to visit if you can.
In Pennsylvania, there are also Amish communities and you can take the opportunity here to learn about the Amish lifestyle and history as well. The Amish community in Lancaster County is the oldest and largest in the country, at about 30,000 members. You can also take an Amish Buggy ride here for a unique experience!
